Help For My Back
How can I keep this from happening again?

You can’t. But there are ways to reduce the likelihood of recurrent back pain, and to keep it from affecting your quality of life. The most important things you can do are:
-
Maintain a healthy weight
-
Don't smoke
-
Manage stress in healthy ways

-
Maintain Neutral Spine Position during activities of daily living can reduce low back pain and injury. This position represents the ideal and most stable position of the lower back when standing, lifting, bending and sitting.

-
Lift properly - bend at hips and knees, tighten your core muscles, lift with the leg muscles (not the back), avoid repetitive bending/twisting at the waist while working.
-
Change positions frequently and avoid prolonged standing or sitting
-
If you sit at work, make workstation adjustments for optimal ergonomics
