Red Flags – Get medical attention immediately if your pain:

  • Feels constant and intense, and you cannot get comfortable in any position

  • Causes severe weakness in one or both legs or numbness around your private parts

  • Causes loss of bowel control or difficulty emptying your bladder

  • Is associated with severe abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss or fever

  • Starts immediately after a major fall or accident

  • If you have cancer, osteoporosis, use intravenous drugs or have a recent history of a serious infection, like pneumonia

  • If you have had back surgery in the last six months
